[Supras] Strange electrical problem

Usually, a series of lights (coupled with the symptoms you're describing)
indicate an alternator on the way out. On my '85 Corolla, the Battery light,
the MIL and the brake light would come on.

How old is the alternator? I had this happen on my '85 Corolla, and on an
'85 Celica I had a couple years ago. In both cases, the brushes were worn
down to nubs. The Corolla had soldered in brushes, and the Celica had screw
terminal type.

Check the bearings while you're there. I repaired the Corolla in '91, and
bought bearings at the same time, but didn't replace them. The bearings only
lasted from 1985 until 2002...but if I had replaced them I'd be driving the
car now! (Bearings seized, and the alternator is rusted solid to the
bracket...)

Subject: [Supras] Strange electrical problem

I got a electrical problem with my 89T. Some times when I am driving the
"battery" , "taillight failure" and "brake"
warning lights come on. Before they come solid , they flicker and the
heater fan motor surges high and low.
And if it is at night I can see the headlights surging brighter.
I have check to see if it is charging after the lights come on and it is.
All of the taillight and brakelight
bulbs are good. It is not low on brake fluid. The altenator is about a year
and a half old.
Could it be the voltage regulator going bad? Any suggestions would be
appreciated.

                                                           Thanks,

James
