Just a note for others, I was hunting down a slight, audible exhaust
leak a couple of weeks ago. Sounded to be coming from header/turbo area.
Was thinking it was likely a gasket due to the minor sound of the leak.
I ran one event and it was noticeably louder throughout the event. One
the trip home, the sound grew to that of a turbo diesel. I got home and
started looking for a leak. I looked at the exhaust wrap I've had on my
SS RT downpipe for ~4 years and noticed some of it had come apart. I
pulled it loose and found that 2 bands of the flex section had broken
apart around half the circumference of the pipe. After removing the rest
of the wrap, the pipe looked fairly rusted. This was supposed to be a SS
pipe but I'm thinking the wrap was holding enough moisture to corrode
the flex section (it's possible the flex wasn't SS)
I had figured using wrap on a SS pipe would be fine as far as corrosion
but it looks like I was wrong. I'll get the next one ceramic coated
since that's held up well for me in the past.
