[Supras] Why are we like we are?

 As a past owner of a MKIII with a BUNCH of money in it, I am shocked that you guys keep comparing it to modern cars!  Yes, it was foward thinking for 'it's day'!  Compared to modern sports cars and sport sedans, the MKIII chassis is a limp noodle!  You would have to gut the interior, and stitch weld all the seams and maybe put a roll cage in it to get it as stiff as some of the newer cars on the market.  A stiff chassis is paramount to obtaining a good ride handling balance or ultimate handling in a race car!  I understand that you guys are nostalgic about your cars, but please don't delude yourselves about it being competitive with modern cars.  And for you guys with Targa cars, you can forget it.  Watching the A pillars vibrate in the wind is not my idea of a modern platform!  I had a hard top car (very rare) and even it was not nearly as stiff as some of the newer cars on the market.  Enjoy your MKIIIs for what they are: inexpensive, very robust, very comfortable, Hi HP potential GTs.  That being said, they will never match up to a G35 or similar.  Let the flames begin!

I find myself asking the same questions.  I now have as much money in may
89NA as it is worth, and I'll never get my time back.  My 89T sits in the
garage waiting for me to quit ignoring it, but it will take quite a bit of
tiem and money to do what I really want with it.

I test drove a 350z when they first came out and have looked at GTOs and had
the same thoughts as you.  But I think I really like the MKIIIs.  I like the
way they drive and look.  So with more effort and more money I can get it to
perform like the newer cars.  I just hope she holds together on me!

It was encouraging read everyone's responses.  A lot of you are more
determined in loving your Supras right now than I am, so I have hope.
