If you are going that far I would pull the compressor and drain it then
refill with fresh mineral oil.
You may be surprised to find nothing there and this may be what causes
compressor failure on higher mileage Toyotas. My wife's 91 Mr2 A/C
compressor was empty and the drier was almost empty. Where the xx ounces of
oil went is beyond me. It may just have leaked out with the Freon over time
and since I was just topping it off every couple of years since 1994 that
may be it
You could flush the system but since you are changing nearly everything else
you could just pull the remaining parts and flush them out with some brake
cleaner.
When I last bought a flush kit for A/C it was really expensive since it
hooked up to my RTI machine. It would flush out gunk but not hurt the
seals. Since you should replace these anyway why bother?
You might as well flush the remaining parts. There are only a couple of
parts you aren't replacing and you should replace the o rings at the
condenser so it isn't much more work.
The BGB should list the totals for the system or try Google. I gave
retrofit information to http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/techtip/R134a.html
The amount of oil would be similar but I can't say it would be exact.

Hi cool supras,
Im redoing my ac system. I tried a shortcut fix once and it leaked after 2
weeks so now I tracked down my leak to the evaporator.
So now I have a new evap, exp valve, hoses, drier and I want to put it
together with my R12 and mineral oil.
Question is, the last "expert" who helped me, put in my r12 with some dye
and "topped it off with good ester oil".
I think this was the wrong oil and I dont think he put more than a couple of
ounces in. So should I worry about whatever is in the condensor? Should I
try to clean it out? How?
It doesnt seem like much of anythng wants to drain out of the compressor so
everything else should be new when I get it back together. The service
manual seems to quote different amounts of oil for each independent part
serviced but I havent seen a amount for total mineral oil used when
replacing all parts, anyone know that amount?
Thanks again.
