You people have all been really nice - and so helpful - not to
mention funny...!
Just want to update you on progress my *not* mechanically-inclined
college student (Computer Science) son is making vis-a-vis repairing
the damage he did to his newly purchased and much-beloved MKIII
(Burgundy - 130K - 5 speed Turbo) - hit guard rail in very tight turn
at about 25 to 30 mph and crumpled entire right front. This a week
after RD 82/55 in it!
Has his Dad's help - like most of your people - one of those 'can do
anything or will figure it out' kind of guys (love him)! -
Have:
*removed the very crumpled fender (much cursing)
*freed the headlight assembly (lots of cussing - both of them) - lamp
and housing ok (!!!) - motor not damaged - cover (what I would call
'eyelid') - not ok - smooshed in on 2 front corners
*removed whatever you call the metal body part in front of engine
compartment - not too much cussing
*bumper cover half cut away - bumper and connectors seem fine
*engine compartment housing frame seems very slightly pushed in and
and down at right front corner
still to go:
*assess damage to fan from rad shifting slightly in - cracked housing
so far
*straighten rad (need to replace timing belt, anyway)
*find a day in this Washington DC area heat to go to junkyard(s) and
remove parts themselves to save money
As a mother - I am torn between wanting him to stick with the 1991
Acura Integra he is using as interim transpo - and loving this car (I
drove it twice...) and admiring his devotion to it. Neither has an
airbag - but the Acura is a little harder to get into trouble
with.......
Not only do we love him in one piece - he is still on our insurance!
